Lab Values
-
Research shows that when members from diverse backgrounds participate, labs can be more productive, more creative, and more successful. We strive to produce the highest quality scholarship and and work to challenge persistent systemic biases in academia and broader society by maintaining a diverse and inclusive lab atmosphere.
-
We strive to promote equity by supporting an open communal environment where lab members can be their full selves and experiences are tailored to the individual skills, interests, and needs of each student.
Efforts to Promote Diversity and Inclusion
-
Dr. Skinner-Dorkenoo is the chair of the University of Georgia Psychology Department Diversity Committee and a member of the Behavior and Brain Sciences Diversity Committee. Several members of the GABBA Lab (Chloe André, Apoorva Sarmal, and Dr. Allison Skinner-Dorkenoo) are involved in department-level efforts to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion through service on the diversity committees and the Psychology Undergraduate Mentoring Program (PUMP).
-
As a lab we are always striving to help level the playing field by recruiting, supporting, and retaining members of systemically underrepresented groups.
-
In addition to our service roles, we also strive to support anti-racism through our teaching and scholarship. See our recent paper on the way microaggressions serve to reinforce and perpetuate systemic racism here.
